Received first fire fighter, emergency response training in 1962 - 63
as a member of the Canadian Navy.
Active in the fire service in B.C. since 1969

- Founding member of the Buckhorn Volunteer Fire Department
- Served as Chief from 1972 - 1977

- Hired by Northwood Pulp & Timber; Sawmill div.
- 1975
- Transfer to Northwood Pulp Mill Div. as a Protection Officer.
- Responsibilities included: Fire Protection & First Aid
- 1978
- Assumed position of Fire Security Chief of the Pulp Mill operation.
- Responsibilities included:
- Supervision of full time Protection Officer staff.
- Supervision of 40 member volunteer, in plant, emergency response
personnel.
- Care and maintenance of plant protection systems, equipment
and emergency vehicles.
- All dealings with insurance underwriters personnel.
- During period served as Fire Chief of the Northwood Pulp Mill
Operation, a major construction project was undertaken.
- Responsibilities during that time included:
- Fire Protection for the construction site and camp
- Consultation for new plant protection systems
- Specifying and purchasing new plant emergency equipment, including
new apparatus
- Dealing with WorkSafeBC on safety issues
- 1981
- Assumed responsibilities in the expanded Northwood Pulp Mill of
training the emergency response personnel, along with the care and
maintenance of emergency equipment.
- 1982
- Completed S.C.B.A. (Scott) field maintenance course.
- 1983
- Founding member of the Beaverly Fire / Rescue Department
- Fire Chief of this department since inception
- Received B.C. / WorkSafeBC Industrial First Aid Instructors certificate
- 1984
- Resigned from Northwood Pulp and Timber and incorporated
- Formed EMERGENCY RESPONSE CONSULTANTS Corp.
- Principal Activities included:
- Consulting to industry on the formation and training of in
plant emergency organizations.
- Safety & Emergency Preparedness Audits.
- 1987
- Received recognition and certification of equivalency from B.C.
Fire Academy for Volunteer Fire Fighter Certificate Program
- 1989
- Successfully completed B.C. Fire Commissioners course for local
assistant to the Fire Commissioner.
- Appointed local assistant for Beaverly Fire Protection area.
- 1992
- Formed partnership and opened THE SAFETY TRAINING ACADEMY - Industrial
First Aid and related safety training programs
- 1994
- Consultant to the University of Northern B.C. conducting Fire
Protection and Safety Surveys. Responsible for WorkSafeBC liaison.
- Justice Institute of B.C. field trainer certified.

- Retired as Fire Chief of Beaverly Fire Rescue after 35 years of active emergency service.
